Easter Activity Idea: Resurrection Rolls

image from cowboys 4 christ

Here is one more quick idea for an Easter themed Activity Day.  I like this one, because it is your activity and treat all in one!  This activity is making Resurrection Rolls, which are rolls which start out with a marshmallow in the center, and then, the marshmallow melts, and the roll is empty and hollow in the middle, representing the empty tomb.  While the rolls are baking, you have time to read the Easter story.  It's a great way to reinforce what Easter is all about!  So without further ado, here is the recipe:

Resurrection Rolls

Ingredients
can crescent roll dough
8 large marshmallows
melted butter
cinnamon sugar

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350 and read John 19 while it's heating.
2. Roll out the dough and explain how it is like the cloth they wrapped Jesus' body in.
3. Explain how a marshmallow is like Jesus, pure and white without sin, and it represents his body.
4. Roll the marshmallow in the melted butter and then cinnamon sugar, representing the oils and spices they placed on Jesus' body before burying him.
5. Roll the marshmallow in the dough, pinching the edges shut. Explain how this is like wrapping Jesus' body in the cloth.
6. Put the rolls in the oven, or the tomb, for 12 min.
7. While they bake, read John 20:1-18.
8. When baked, open up the rolls to discover the marshmallow is gone, just like Jesus' body was gone from the tomb because he was resurrected.

You might even consider sending the girls home with their own Resurrection Rolls Kit, so they can do this activity with their own family!  Here is a printable version for you if you would like to do so!

Easter Activity: Resurrection Eggs

From momtheintern.blogspot.com
Easter is only a few weeks away.  We live here in the south.  You can find Resurrection Eggs everywhere here.  Walmart, Hobby Lobby, the checkout of the grocery store.  I had never seen them before moving this direction.  They are really neat.  They go through the Easter story and talk about the different events leading up to the crucifixion and resurrection of the Savior using a familiar Easter symbol-eggs.  I used them in singing time and last year we made our own sets for Activity Days.  You can find a great version here

There are several different versions on the internet.  If you want to substitute a scripture or an item for a different one, then listen to the Spirit and customize it for your group.

Sometimes, you are limited by budget, availability, time, and size constraints.  That's why these are just ideas and you can adapt them to fit your needs!

Here is an idea for a cute treat that is NOT sugar.
Sorry, the only source I have on this is this pinterest pin.

Just some cheesy bunny crackers in a plastic bag (cone-shaped, it might be a piping bag) tied with a green bow.  Easy-peasy!

 Happy Easter!

Easter

Our Easter lesson was prepped in a day. SO, it was simple.
I found this cute Jelly Bean poem here, printed, and made little bags of beans. They loved them.
Then I had printed on cardstock a booklet from this months Friend,
The Story of Easter, for them to color. We sewed the binding by hand with embroidery floss. Just to make it more difficult, I mean cute.

Springtime Fun and Games

We decided to do a quick craft and a review of the Articles of Faith before spring break.  So, my trusty co-leader found this great craft at make it -love it that would be quick and simple.  Basically all you need are paper towels, food coloring, water, and chenille stems. You fold the paper towel in half, four times.  This makes 16 sections, unfolded.  Then you dip a corner into four different colors of dye.  Repeat with each corner.  Unfold and let dry.  Then fold it accordion style, pinch in middle and twist a chenille stem around it to create the antennae.  Super cute and easy!

We also tied in a springy review of the A of F by doing an easter egg hunt.  I found this great idea here at a bushel and a peck.

BTW, this is a fabulous site with some super cute ideas and printables!  I don't know how she has time to do all that designing and creating, but I love it all!  We filled a whole bunch of eggs with candy and half of them also had cut up sections of Articles of Faith in them.  I chose to just do 8-13, since that is what we needed to review.  You can pick and choose, or do all of them!  While Sister S. was working with half the girls on the craft, I reviewed the A of F verbally with the other half.  Then we switched.  I went outside and hid the eggs about 5 minutes before everyone was finished.  We let them loose to find the eggs and then they got to eat their candy and try to find the rest of the pieces of their Article of Faith.  It was fun and made them think hard about the individual phrases of the Article of Faith.  We finished with a spring cookie treat and a robust game of tag!  Thank goodness it is getting warm!  12-15 girls in my living room is a little nuts!  Enjoy!
